Sunday Nov 13. Sunday morning early we broke camp and drove into [Harequillos] on the Peruvian border. Since elections were being held in Peru, we weren't allowed to cross the border. That meant a day to spend around town.
We ate breakfast (egg and bread) in town, then drove out to the port--a small arm of the sea that extends inland. The land for some distance in from the port is layer upon layer of seashells. The kids had a ball choosing the best specimens for their collection, though none are very good. It was really a smelly place--rotten banana, etc.
Drove back to town for dinner, which we were really looking forward to after our fast of the day before. All they had was "chicken and onions" which turned out to be a bit of chicken salad on top of rice. But it was delicious--and also the soup. We all got filled up and waddled away contented.
Then back to [Arenillos] we drove for a bath and to wash clothes. The girls washed while I took a nap. Then I went down and bathed with Ken. We really had an audience all day.
[Ken's birthday. The kids made birthday cards of which we took pics]
Ken met the owner of two stores in [Harequillas] in the afternoon. He offered to let us stay in the yard of his new villa, which was a godsend. This we did, and the kids put sleeping bags down in one of the unfinished rooms. What a blessing to be walled in and have a meal in privacy with leisure to prepare it and dry skies above.
Ken put in the other jet after supper while I caught up on the journal.
