Sept 7. Got up early and fished some more but no luck. Another cold night. Tonight we should be warmer. We ran into a very strong wind coming into Rock Springs that blew us all over the road. The campsite we stayed at last night was the most rustic in the U.S. The table had one high and one low bench which the kids thought was very funny.
Got into [Kemmerer] about noon and stopped at a fossil fish shop. Met a lovely lady, Mrs. Ulrich, who showed us their workshop for preparing fossil fish. They work with museums the world over and do beautiful work. She told us how and where to hunt, so we drove to the sight and spent several hours looking for indications of fossilized fish in the shale. Found a couple pieces with fossil impressions to work on. Ken wrote to Mrs. Ulrich for the fish she promised us, and hope we get it before leaving Cal. Drove on to a KOA campsite outside [Heber], Utah. All took showers which we needed very badly and did a wash. The country is beautiful with red bushes on the mountainsides contrasting against the olive green of sage and darker vegetation. Got off not too early. A cold morning. Drove into [Heber] and bought cards, groceries, magazine for kids, etc. Stopped at a lovely park in [Summersin] to eat lunch. We bought some delicious pears, apples and peaches in Provo, and have been feasting since.
