Decker Trip - Panamerican Highway 1966

Sept 4. Sunday drove out to see the [Bronskis] in [Owanlsa] to have Sunday School. Found out the family had broken up. Mr. Howard is in Rapid City. We decided to visit him in the afternoon. Went fossil hunting a bit in morning after devotions. Came back to camp and ate dinner. I slept after lunch while Ken took kids swimming in river.
We drove in to Rapid City about 5 pm. Ate a bucket of chicken at the city park, then went to visit Mr. Howard at the Beehe Nursing Home. He was glad to see us but seemed very wrapped up in his childhood. We drove out of Rapid City and camped at a Roadside Rest area (7-11 roadside park).

Sept 5. The wind was blowing cold this morning when we got up. The kids were all shivering from the cold though it was warm in the sun. We drove to Agate Springs fossil deposit which is not open to the public. We ate in the shade of a tree beside the ranger's trailer. Drove all afternoon and camped out at Happy Jack Recreation Area just befoe getting to Laramie. It was beastly cold and we ate a shivery supper of bacon and eggs. Gordie's fire felt good. My feet froze all night.
Sept 6. Drove into Laramie and went shopping. Bought 2 barbecued chickens at S.M. and ate them for lunch. Ate supper at Green River, Wyoming. Tried to find the fossil deposit but noone around to tell us. Camped beside the Green River. Gordie went fishing awhile before bed. Supposed to be trout in river.
