September 1 Left camp mid morning and drove all day. Camped at Whitewater State Park in Minneapolis near Rochester. It started to rain hard. Gordie and Cory came in with us. Really poured for several hours, but we were snug and dry inside.
September 2 The hitch [some] when we broke camp in the morning. Kind of messy. Decided to eat somewhere in and out of the rain. At night we camped at Camp Dakota, along the highway just outside of Sioux Falls. A barren place. Had a marshmallow roast.
September 3 Left Camp Dakota about 8:30 and drove all day. Ate at Chamberlain, just over the bridge in a lovely park with free showers andhot water. Washed my hair. Drove on past Wall, S. Dak., and stopped in the rest area just before Wasta. Tried to hunt fossils, but gravel pit was closed.
