Oct 13. Had a beautiful morning--just a bit of sprinkle while we were eating breakfast of papaya and bread.
We took the Pacific Route which is absolutely breathtaking. Views of the ocean beaches are interspersed with inland tropical mountains. We stopped once along a bluff overlooking the ocean and taped the sound of the breakers and took pictures.
Decided to cut across from Libertad to El Salvador to see the city and swim in Los Chorros.
Since it started sprinkling, we ate sandwiches on the way and went to Los Chorros first, a perfectly beautiful place made from a river dropping down the mountain. They've caught the water in 3 pools which are all cemented and rocked in. I took a shower while the others bathed. It started to pour, but they didn't care. Left there and went into the city.
I had a trerribly embarrassing experience at a lavanderia trying to get some clothes washed and dried. They charged by the piece and it came to $5 for a few pieces of wash. She arrived at this price after handling all our dirty, stinky wash, and that was a ritzy place. So I walked out with the wash and we were both glad. I'm sure. We bought some bread downtown and drove out to Lake Ilopango where we found a very nice camping spot with toilet facilities. Ate supper and hung the wet clothes out for the night. Ronny and Gordie took their sleeping bags to a galpon where they got soaked during the night. It really came down in sheets. Now we have to find some way to dry everthing that got wet.
