Oct 22. Had a good rest and woke up to no rain. Ken had to attach the U bolt that he bought at the station. That took a while, and meanwhile I did all the dirty clothes we had. Had to take it along wet, but at least it was done! We were in a hurry to get through the worst part of the highway which is from San Isidro to Palmar Norte. It was about 9:30 when we started, and it took us till 2:30 to get to Palmar Norte. It is beautiful jungle all along the road, and we passed several waterfalls worthy of any National Park. There was one derrumbe we had to stop for--just behind a jeep. But he pulled us through in a jiffy, so we thanked the Lord that he was there. Bought some potato empanadas in Palmar Norte and a lady gave us some guineos.
We had a little rain just at the end, and from Palmar Norte on. Saw some exquisitely tiny birds. They looked about this size to me [a 3 inch drawing].
We arrived at the border about 6:00, and had no trouble on either side. In fact, it was a snap. The aduaneros recommended the Hotel Rocio in Concepcion to us, so we went there. A really lovely place. We had two rooms--a suite with hot water. We were starved, so went into the dining room to eat. Ken ordered four portions of chicken and rice (Chinese style--American prices!).
Had a good rest.
