Nov 17. The wind died down during the night, so it was quite comfortable when we got up. We all made an effort to hurry things up so that we could get to Lima earlier tonight. Had hot chocolate and bread with cheese and guayabada.
Most of the day's drive was along the ocean with some breathtaking glimpses of rocky and sand ocean coves. Ken stopped once close to the shore for us all to get out and get the feel of sand under our feet. The shore was speckled orange, but disappeared once we approached. Large and small crabs ducked into their holes as they caught sight of us, though we caught a few unawares. It was a relaxing hour we spent there, then back on the road.

Most of the road is good pavement, though too narrow. There is no driving courtesy. Everybody tries to beat the other fellow to it.
We were stopped by a sand slide not too far from Lima. There were workmen working this stretch constantly and vendors to take advantage of stopped motorists. Bought some peanuts.
We were looking forward to staying at the Wycliff House in Lima, and visions of showers and clean beds danced through our heads as we neared the city.
Lima is a beautiful city with many lovely homes and wide avenues. We were disappointed to find out that there was no space to park our car and camper at Wycliff, but they suggested we try the Peruvian Bible Institute out of town. And it was out of town! We drove and drove as it became darker, but finally arrived at the doorway of the P.B.I. We were graciously received by Mr. Roff, a real old-world gentleman who thought about our plight for a while and finally decided that we could park in the parking lot at the entrance. Well, through no fault of his own, Mr. Roff brought on a great wave of disappointment and weeping. It was all the fault of our imaginations building on what wasn't there.
We intended to buy supper at a restaurant since we hadn't eaten much during the day, but even that didn't wash out. No restaurants out in this undeveloped area. So we ate tunafish sandwiches and consoled ourselves with the thought of a hot meal tomorrow.
