Decker Trip - Panamerican Highway 1966

Oct 4. Got up early after a good night's sleep. Had breakfast in the room and got off about 7:45. We drove and drove--seemed we'd never get to Mexico City. Finally we got there about 4:30, but got lost getting into the city. We got off on a side street and ended up going the wrong way. We got stopped right in front of an old Aztec pyramid in the middle of the slum. Got out of there and finally found the Wycliff Home quite late after a horrible drive through the city.
That afternoon, before getting to M.C., we drove to Tula, to see the Toltec ruins. They weren't very imposing, but the sculpture was interesting.

At the Wycliff Home, it was nice to get to a lovely room with shower. We all slept in the room--most of the kids on the floor. Since we hadn't gotten any supper, we took the little stove into the room and made some bean soup and hot dogs. Had a good night's sleep.
