Sept 27-28. Last night we tried to sleep out on the ground just east of Florence Junction, Arizona. We were bitten by ants and disturbed by the big trucks along the road. The kids slept in the car and Ken and I on the ground. After about 3 hours, it began to rain, so we packed up and drove for awhile. Then we pulled off the road again and were able to sleep til six. We had a beautiful [down.] Drove into Safford and had breakfast at the park while the laundry was washing. Stopped in at a Rock Shop there to see what fire agates look like. Ken bought a couple.
We stopped by at Mary Ellen Cross's place to see Lenette. Lenette was working, so we didn't see her, but M. E. Invited us to stay for supper. They had a big pool in the back yard which was an answer to prayer for the kids. They got cooled off good, we had supper and went on our way. That was when we slept beside the road.
Drove into El Paso and stopped at the AAA to check documents. The kids were so tired from driving all day that they ran around the car lot. The owner told them to leave, but when he realized they weren't neighborhood kids, he told me they could play.
Ken got helpful information and Mexican insurance. They told us the road from Eagle Pass would be better than the one from El Paso, so we decided to go on. Ate a delicious broasted chicken dinner before leaving El Paso. Drove out to the Guadalupe Mountains and stopped at a rest area to sleep. Had a good rest in the camper.
